Lost in Thailand

A far cry from peace and quiet, Thailand however offers other advantages: exploring the sacred Wat Phra Kaew temple in Bangkok, trekking through the jungle of the Khao Sok National Park, island hopping in search of the “The Beach”. Or you can find a beach like this, swim in the sea with just about perfect temperature, eat Pad Thai, drink freshly squeezed mango juice and finish all the books you’ve started since giving birth.

Coolkidz Tip: Kids stay at home for this to work.

Row, row, row your boat… on the Lake Alexandrina

It is just one more reason to visit New Zealand, specifically the South Island. Off the beaten track and part of the protected wildlife refuge it offers solitude accompanied with stunning views of the nearby snow covered mountains. With not much else to do here but fish, you’ll come home relaxed and ready to conquer to world. I give you half an hour before you start wishing you were back at the lake rowing the yellow boat into the unknown.

Hello, Maldives.

This swing actually looks big enough to share with the kids or hubby. But you don’t do sharing, not on my watch and not in this day dream. So, take up all the space and don’t lift a finger. When doing nothing gets tough, enjoy the warm white sand under your feet and swim in the Indian ocean. Maybe later you can learn to surf, snorkel and discover different species of fish and marine flora. Don’t leave before sending home ridiculously amazing postcards featuring the best scenes Maldives have to offer and just write “Wish you were here.”

Never tire of the Yarrie Lake

Thought to have been formed by a falling meteor many thousands of years ago, Yarrie Lake in the New South Wales state of Australia is something special all together. 3 km saucer-shaped expanse of water is home to over 70 bird species and despite its unusual milky color, the lake is great for swimming. Due to amazing sunsets it’s popular among photographers, while others come to enjoy the waters and camping in nature. Swinging from a tire and plunging into the water has long been a dream of mine, this is definitely worth a trip to Australia.

Somewhere in Belize

On the Eastern coast of Central America, this small yet diverse country with various cultures and languages, has the lowest population density in Central America. Translate: a perfect opportunity for peace and quiet. Great weather, a chance to swim with exotic sea life along the Western Hemisphere’s largest barrier reef, fascinating mysteries of the largest concentration of Maya sites in the region… all viable reasons for a visit. Or you can just hang and wait for the perfect moment to let go.

Je t’adore Guadeloupe

I have just discovered the perfect reason to become fluent in French, because they really do have the best: Paris, Normandy, Brittany and now I find out that this paradise on Earth belongs to them, too. Guadeloupe is an archipelago of islands part of the French Antilles. Might be known for many things, but I would just need a few days right here, dipping my fingers into the sea, counting waves and repeating: je suis, tu es, il est…

Forget home at Manda Bay Island Resort

Situated in the Lamu Archipelago just of the Kenyan coast, this remote beach resort is known for its fantastic fishing, water sports, game viewing and soft sandy beaches…. But they had me at the remote beach resort. With a place like this, I am afraid I’d have trouble finding my way back home.

You can find all of these photos of swings around the world on our Pinterest boards, which I regularly use for day-dreaming.  Join me and let’s indulge together.
