A Room with the Perfect View. A Review of the Mövenpick Heritage Hotel Sentosa.

Mövenpick Heritage Hotel Sentosa is right in the center of all the main attractions but peaceful enough so you can relax when you absolutely need to. Sentosa is an island of pure fun. Its slogan conveying the message: Asia’s favourite playground.  That’s basically the whole reason why you go there for a visit – to have a blast. It’s almost as one huge theme park with so many great things to do. Visiting Universal Studios, the best aquarium I had ever seen or swimming with the dolphins to name just a few.

Be in the heart of it all

Mövenpick Heritage Hotel Sentosa is right there in the middle of it all. You get to be in the center of all that goes on, while having a peaceful rest when you absolutely need it. Besides ask for a room overlooking Singapore’s national mascot – the Merlion (a creature with a lion head and a body of a fish) and you definitely won’t miss anything even when you are resting.

Two different experiences

The hotel itself is a sight to behold as well, as the newly opened wing is a lovingly restored colonial building that dates back to the 1940s. So, if you are staying in this part of the hotel, you will enjoy a bit of history as the rooms contain some of the such as colonial doors, windows, covered ‘link way’ corridors and other architectural details fully restored to their former glory. And let’s not forget to mention the unique views of the iconic Merlion. It was kind of surreal for all of us to be lying in bed and starring up at this majestic statue, especially in the evening when it is illuminated with different colors.

We loved our spacious room in the Heritage wing but were told that guest staying in the contemporary wing don’t miss out though. Their rooms are striking as well, designed by the internationally renowned Japanese design company Super Potato and include the modern section.

To your heart’s desire

I bet no matter which part you chose, you get pampered like royalty. We were welcomed by really friendly and helpful staff, that knew their way around. Kids were especially happy with the ice cream that was delivered to our room upon our arrival and devoured before we managed to close the door. After looking out of the window and resting for a few seconds, the kids were itching to go to the pool. The beautiful infinity pool is made for swimming or just splashing around and was perfect for cool off on a hot day after a full day we spent trying to enjoy all the sights on Sentosa.

And after a good night’s sleep there were high expectations for the breakfast. Let me tell you right away, they do not disappoint. With a great selection of food you get to taste the best of both worlds, Asia and let’s call it the West. I couldn’t make up my mind between a variety of dumplings, noodles or waffles, omelettes and fruits. The compromise was to try a bit of it all, while making a solemn promise not to eat anything more till the rest of the day.

Though at first we thought we didn’t need to sleep over on Sentosa, we could just go back to Singapore, with this hotel we are sure we made the right decision. Running around all the sights, trying to keep up with the kids is a challenging endeavor, so it was really welcome to have a place to relax for a while and then join the action again.  But Mövenpick Heritage Hotel  Sentosa was more than just an opportunity to recharge our batteries; it proved to be an attraction all on its own.
