Coolkidz’ Review: The Radisson Narita Hotel

The Radisson Narita hotel is much more than the hotel close to the airport. Yes, it is conveniently close to it and offers a free shuttle to get you there on time, but it also has other great amnesties making it perfect for a lovely stay even if you don’t have a plane to catch.

Part of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, Radisson Narita hotel delivers great service and comfort in style. Though we primarily chose it, due to its proximity to the Narita International airport (just 15 minutes away), since our plane was scheduled to leave before noon next day, we got more than just a place to sleep for a night. It was really a perfect ending to our great adventure in Japan.

Once your get there it seems that the conundrum of the airport and the hustle and bustle of Tokyo are miles away, as it is surrounded with lush green gardens and it’s comfortable enough to make your forget this is just a quick stop over. The welcome and efficiency off the staff throughout our stay was what we came to expect after almost two weeks in Japan: polite and friendly, helpful but never pushy. We arrived using the excellent complimentary bus shuttle, which operates to and from the airport by the hour. Bus service to the Tokyo station and to the nearby destinations around the town of Narita are also on offer. We did plan to see some of the attractions Narita is famous for, but we got delayed in Tokyo.

Here is a great Narita travel guide if you can make it.

Since the hotel and its great amenities can keep you pretty busy, they don’t want you hiding in your lovely rooms. In warm beige and brown colors these are functional yet cozy, accompanied with the accoutrements such as the Nespresso tea and coffee maker, fluffy bathrobes and slippers. The bed is huge and just right to make you forget why you have to wake up early in the morning. Especially because the free Wi-Fi kept letting me check just one more thing, before catching the needed sleep. But the morning did bring about the hotel breakfast and amazing views from the room located on 11th floor of the hotel’s tower building, overlooking the whole compound with gardens and a big outdoor swimming pool.

This one however wasn’t yet in use, only in the Summer, but we did try out the indoor pool, the minute we finished checking in. Relaxing in the pool or de-stressing in the adjacent well equipped gym is actually a terrific way to wind down after a day full of adventures. They also offer two great saunas but with two kids we weren’t able to try them out.

Coolkidz say: The pool at the Radisson Narita Hotel – definitely one of the highlights of the whole trip to Japan.

The hotel is really great for families: it offers the aforementioned pool, playroom in the lobby and a friendly touch in every room – chocolate cookies as a welcome, kid sized slippers and toothbrushes along with toothpaste.

And while kids made full use of the playroom, we had a hard time deciding where to eat – since the hotel offers two different yet appealing restaurants without having to venture out. After careful deliberation we picked the Sports bar, due to the all you can eat complimentary pop-corn. Kids’ favorite. Though we were the only ones with the kids there, it was still fairly early and perfectly suitable for families. The food we ordered was good, delivered quickly and for a hotel restaurant not overpriced. The bar also offers a good choice of bottled and draught beers, which is what along with the popcorn made the two of us happy. Before I forget – the Japanese have excellent beer.

By the time we finished the bar was getting louder and full of people coming there to party, so we left to pack up and get some sleep. In the morning, it was only the prospect of the buffet breakfast that got us out of bed fast enough. It is served in what they call California Restaurant, which like the name suggest offers lot of light and sunshine through its floor to ceiling windows, a lovely view of the garden and the summer pool and a typical array of Western food favorites – such as eggs, bacon, sausages… It seems they also have an extensive offer of Japanese food, but after spending two weeks indulging in it, we were ready for a taste of “home”.

After the hearty meal and a good cup of coffee we took the shuttle – leaving right on time to the airport terminal. While our stay at the Radisson Narita hotel was great, it didn’t make it any easier for us to leave Japan. It was just one more reason why we fell in love with this country.
