London at night

7 Best Babymoon Destinations in Europe

One last hurrah before you fall in love with travel with kids. Babymoon is a chance for the two of you to spend some quality time together before the baby comes and you barely see one another. Use it. I combed through Europe to find the best destinations and places to stay at, to give you a variety of options to chose from. You can decide to relax and unwind, to swim or to hike, to learn and explore… Even with the bump the world is still your oyster.

London at night1) London

Since we chose London for our babymoon I have to mention it first. It has everything you might need and that is also the problem. Despite being pregnant I still tried to see it all. I’ve only learned how to pace myself once we started traveling with our baby.

Keep calm and explore London.

London has great many options for accommodation to chose from. B&B was our safe bet.

Coolkidz tip: Take time for shopping on your babymoon and chose a little something for the baby. It will keep reminding you of the trip and it can make a lasting keepsake.

2) Spain, Extramadura

I am not sure if travel while pregnant and while chasing a two year old counts as a babymoon? Probably not. Still for our big pre-second baby trip we headed out to the beautiful Spain, more exactly to Barcelona. But if we had to chose all over again – we would pick a more relaxing place – Extramadura. The land of the conquistadors with rich history and even better food.

Hey, if not now than when can you enjoy being pregnant.

If you stay at Casa Rural Finca Flores Amarillas, you have a perfect chance for a couple of nice daily visits to Merida, Caceres or Trujillo and relax in the meantime. They have plenty of options to keep the older kid busy and they offer Spanish and English learning courses.

My pro tip: Enroll everyone in the classes, while you take a nap in the shade of an olive tree.

3) Bosnia, mountains around Sarajevo

Might not seem as the obvious choice, but the land of my ancestors is beautiful, wild and just waiting to be discovered. Find the perfect balance between sightseeing and unwinding at Vukov konak mountain inn.

It is only a short ride from the capital of Sarajevo but the scenery couldn’t be more different. You are in the wilderness where horses and cows range free. The nature seems untouched and the slow pace of life will have you smiling.

And the owner, Nepu is a doula – so you can pick her brain for some interesting information and she’ll help you be more at easy when the time comes.

4) Austria, Vienna

Two words – chocolate cake. The capital of Austria is famous for the so called Sacher cake and you can enjoy it with a perfect cup of joe while you rest from all the walking around. Rich in history, quirky places, parks and everything else you can think of, Vienna will not leave you bored.

With all the activities you will also not gain an ounce so you can literally have your cake and eat it too.

Vienna at your fingertips and a laid back atmosphere – you can’t ask for more.

5) Scotland, near Gairloch in Wester Ross

Imagine staying at a lighthouse at what seems like the end of the Earth. Why? How about no mobile phone signal or wi-fi? Nobody can call just to see how you are doing, when the baby is coming and…

No TV to upset you because let’s face it you cry at commercials and can’t even watch the news. Since the nearest shop is a good half-hour drive away you don’t have any other choice but to truly enjoy the nature.

Rua Reidh Ligthouse in the Wester Ross is truly a perfect spot for anyone looking to hike, explore the enchanting land of lochs, mountains and the coast.

It might make you believe in magic and that you will need when the time comes.

6) Croatia, Hvar

Swim to your heart’s content. Sometimes you don’t need to see and do it all. You just want to soak up the sun and jump into the clear blue waters. Let the sea take some of the burden. If that’s the case look no further than Croatia. Miles and miles of beautiful Adriatic coast.

But when it comes to the best – I’d go for Dalmatia – more specifically the islands, such as Hvar or Brac or even Vis.

Hvar

For a bit of history why not stay at this old Tower on the island of Hvar, which was built by the Franciscans as a windmill in 1761.

And you don’t have to venture far for a whole lot of delicious food, sun and a perfect swim.

7) Slovenia, Kobarid

Finally, I can’t finish without mentioning my home country of Slovenia. It has plenty of nooks and crannies perfect for couples to enjoy. But my vote goes to the Posocje region, which offers again great food, plenty of things to do and if you stay at the chalets Nebesa, meaning Heaven in Slovene you will never want to leave.

Nebesa

It’s a no kids zone. A place to just enjoy each other’s company and the nature surrounding you.
